LEVEL 1: BASIC THAI MASSAGE COURSE

​​​​​​​The Basic Thai Massage course is designed to create a solid foundation to become a professional Thai massage practitioner.

 

You will learn:

 

Bodywork Technique:

- 108 Steps that combine into a 90-120 minute Thai massage.

- 10 Thai sen used for therapeutic purposes during a Thai massage - understanding the location and basic theory (Commoner Style Thai Sen).

Theory:

- Legendary figure thought by Thais to be responsible for creating Thai massage and the healing arts

- History of Thai massage dating from King Rama I until present day.

- How to ground yourself in preparation for healing.

- Learn contraindications for Thai massage.

Practice:

- Receive Thai massage from professional practitioners in Chiang Mai, Thailand and Sararut “Sara” Pilakun.

- Give massage to Sararut “Sara” Pilakun and villagers from the local Chiang Mai area.

- If your program includes classmates, you will give and receive massage within your class members.

 

The 108 step Thai massage was developed by Sararut “Sara” Pilakun based on the nearly 1000 various techniques she has learned throughout her lifetime as a Thai massage practitioner. â€‹

The Intermediate Thai Massage course builds on the foundation of the Basic Thai Massage course to expand your techniques and abilities so that you will be considered a Professional Thai Massage Practitioner at the completion of this course.

 

You will learn:

 

Bodywork Technique:
- 150+ Steps that can be used to create a more efficient and effective Thai massage.

- 10 Thai sen used for therapeutic purposes during a Thai massage - discover ability to feel the line, know exactly where it is, and the purpose of each line (Commoner Style Thai Sen).

 

Theory:

- Thai Ministry of Public Health Practitioner Code of Conduct.

- Introduction to treatment procedures for primary acupressure points that contain the ability to improve wellness or kill a human being. Wellness will be taught and instruction of how to avoid harming a human being.

- Introduction to observational assessment of client’s physical conditions.

- Contraindications for Thai massage techniques used for special populations.

 

Practice:

- Receive Thai massage from professional practitioners in Chiang Mai, Thailand and Sararut “Sara” Pilakun.

- Give massage to Sararut “Sara” Pilakun and villagers from the local Chiang Mai area.

​​​The Advanced Thai Massage course builds on the foundation of the Basic & Intermediate Thai Massage courses so that you can develop into an Advanced Professional Thai Massage Practitioner at the completion of this course.

 

You will learn:

 

Bodywork Technique:

- 30 acupressure points used for treatment of client’s conditions. There are a total of 550 acupressure points used in the treatment of clients. This course teaches the first 30 with additional points being taught in later coursework.

- Extensive bodywork development using existing techniques taught in prior classes. Special attention will be dedicated to correct body mechanics and body alignment.

- Ability to provide bodywork where you can feel the separation of bone, muscles and ligaments.

- Learn the ability to resolve physical conditions felt in the muscles, ligaments, nerves, or bones.

 

Theory:

- Introduction to Anatomy of Physical Body of Thai Massage - Four (4) Element Theory

- Introduction to Anatomy of the Mind

- Royal Thai sen which was developed for treatment of individuals in higher positions of society.

- Healthy meditation techniques for a healthy massage practice and/or for introduction to your clients to improve wellness. (Anapanasati)

 

Practice:

- Receive Thai massage from professional practitioners in Chiang Mai, Thailand and Sararut “Sara” Pilakun.

- Give massage to Sararut “Sara” Pilakun and villagers from the local Chiang Mai area.

This course will teach you traditional Thai folk assessment and treatment using Thai massage and herbal remedies. Students will be taught how to apply the Thai folk practices to their local plant species. You will be exposed to a wide variety of traditional folk healing practices.

 

You will learn:

 

Theory:

- Detailed Anatomy of Physical Body of Thai Massage - Four (4) Element Theory

- Detailed Anatomy of the Mind

Theory of Thai Lom and 40 causes of disease of the Lom.

- How to assess and treat the major 12 symptoms identified in the human body with Thai massage.

- Learn the Thai catogization of raw herbal ingredients used to remedy health conditions.

- Understand 30 different Thai herb categorizations and use in treatments.

- Discover how to apply the Thai system of herbal remedies to your local (home country) herbs, vegetables, and plant species.

- Extensive and in-depth Anapanasati building on foundation taught in Advanced Thai Massage course.

- Receive traditional Thai “tok-sen” treatment by local healers.

- Receive traditional Thai “yam-khang” treatment by local healers.

 

Practice:

- Visit the Royal Park Rajapruek, a Royal herbal garden located in Chiang Mai, Thailand to learn identification of Thai herbs.

- Visit a local Thai fruit market to learn identification of fruits, vegetables and other natural products used to treat clients.

- Visit a local Thai temple for meditation and discussion with monks.

- Experience local Thai cuisine where you will learn the healing properties of food with application to your own local food in your home country.

Thai tigger point therapy to resolve congestion in the physical or energetic self.

- Assess condition of client’s mind for application into bodywork session.

- Receive Thai massage from professional practitioners in Chiang Mai, Thailand and Sararut “Sara” Pilakun.

- Give massage to Sararut “Sara” Pilakun and villagers from the local Chiang Mai area.

This course is designed as a capstone course to complete a student’s training in preparation for them to be a teacher. At the completion of this course, students will have studied Thai massage and folk healing extensively with in-depth practical experience. You will have the ability to practice Thai massage at the highest level within the Western world.

 

You will have the freedom to develop your own curriculum and coursework based on your knowledge. Continued support will be provided by the Thai Massage & Folk Healing Training Center to assist you and your school.

 

You will learn:

 

Bodywork Technique:

- 50+ Steps that can be used to create a more efficient and effective Thai massage. Teachers will have 300+ techniques.

- Incorporate in-depth bodywork, sen work, and acupressure points for highly effective healing session.

- How to resolve client releases from the physical and emotional body.

- How to protect yourself from unhealthy energy from a client.

- How to build strong vibrant healing energy within yourself for more potent healing effects with client.

 

Theory:

- In-depth Anatomy of the Mind with ability of how to “catch” your mind and stop thoughts before too much happiness or sadness (“being lost in thought”) which results in suffering.

- In-depth Anatomy of Physical Body of Thai Massage - Four (4) Element Theory with application to bodywork session.

 

Practicing:

- Receive Thai massage from professional practitioners in Chiang Mai, Thailand and Sararut “Sara” Pilakun.

- Give massage to Sararut “Sara” Pilakun and villagers from the local Chiang Mai area.

- If your program includes classmates, you will also give and receive massage within your class members.

- Visit a local Thai temple for meditation and discussion with monks.

- Daily morning meditation practice.

- Opportunity to live at a Buddhist temple for 1-3 days of deep meditation practice as a “phrom”.

This course will prepare students to perform a 60-90 minute East West massage on a professional massage table. This massage uses the best of both worlds incorporating the techniques of Thai massage with lotion/oil, gliding, stroking, etc. of Western massage.

 

You will learn:

 

Bodywork technique:

- 108 Steps for a complete East West massage combining Thai massage, deep tissue, swedish, and acupressure bodywork.

- Bodywork development paying attention to correct body mechanics and body alignment.

Theory:

- Introduction to basic anatomy of the body.

- Discover the importance of East West massage and how it is applied for health and wellness.

- Learn contraindications for East West massage.

Practice:

This course will teach you how to integrate pre-made “hot” Thai herbal compresses into your Thai massage and East West massage bodywork sessions.

 

You will learn:

 

Bodywork:

- How to apply “hot” compresses to your client’s body during a Thai massage and East West massage.

Theory:

- Learn the equipment/supplies used, required preparation, the ingredients within the herbal compresses, and the benefits of herbal compress massage.

- Understand how to adjust the temperature of the herbal compresses and address any potential allergic reactions to the herbal compresses.

 

Practice:

- If your program includes classmates, you will give and receive massage within your class members or Sararut “Sara” Pilakun.

THAI FOOT MASSAGE (REFLEXOLOGY)

The Thai Foot Massage course will teach you a 60-minute foot massage routine. This massage is often taught using a wooden stick which is considered to be like “training wheels” for massage practitioners. Unfortunately, this stick is very popular and used throughout the Thai massage world. 

 

The more advanced and proper way to perform a Thai foot massage is with the practitioners hands, using the hands and knuckles only. This course does not use the stick and aims to elevate students from the start into using proper technique without the massage stick.

 

You will learn:

 

Bodywork:

- 40+ Thai reflexology points activated using the practitioners hand.

- Learn how to shorten this bodywork session from 60-minutes to 30-minutes for client’s that do not have enough time or for sessions where you will also complete a full Thai body massage.

Theory:

- Understand the connection between all 40+ Thai reflexology points and organs in the body.

- Discover the importance of Thai reflexology and how it is applied for health and wellness.

- Learn contraindications for Thai reflexology.

 

Practice:

-  Receive Thai foot massage from Sararut “Sara” Pilakun.

Give massage to Sararut “Sara” Pilakun.

- If your program includes classmates, you will also give and receive massage within your class members.

The Individual Private Apprenticeship provides students the opportunity to study with Sararut “Sara” Pilakun in a one-on-one environment to advance your studies above and beyond normal coursework.
